On Friday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, together with Evhen Suslov, People´s Deputy of Ukraine, met the heads of the schools, nursery schools and teachers of Ukrainian language and literature in Skvyra town (Kyiv region). In the course of the meeting, M.Tomenko presented a CD "Classics of Ukrainian Literature. Living Voices" and a CD "Audio Course for the Ukrainian Children for the Nursery Schools of Skvyra" to the schools of the city.
M. Tomenko emphasised that today teachers in nursery and secondary schools are the last outpost of Ukrainianhood. "If the power continues to change Ukrainian values into the Soviet or Russian, and takes care only of the formation of organizational committees to celebrate jubilee of Soviet cosmonaut or partisan and also advances and protects the interests of Russian language, then the knowledge on Ukrainian history, language and culture will not be found even in mass media and state service", M. Tomenko declared.
M. Tomenko also underscored an extremely important mission of a teacher under the present conditions. "We endured different periods of annihilation of Ukrainian culture and education, and I am convinced that we will also get over this time, that the nursery and secondary schools and higher education establishments stand this test", he emphasised.
